Patched executable not functional on Vista 64 SP2. Fault in Kernel32.dll

After some crapshots I got it to work.
I'm using Vista 32-bit

1. Installed, and opened as a trial.
2. Applied patch.
3. Still in trial mode.

(nevermind i cant post the link)
(suggested at demonoid) (i confirmed that it was clean)
5. After applying, it made Songsmith crash.
6. Tried to repair with Songsmith installer.
7. Some crap came up about it being in use.
8. Used Windows Install Clean-Up to clean up SongSmith installation files(not the same as uninstalling)
9. Used installer to install over existing files.
10. Hoped that it would fix the crashing.
11. Turned on songsmith. No crash.
12. Songsmith no longer nagging about trial and key.
This is exactly what I did, maybe some steps are unnecessary, but after all, i was just guessing at what would be best to do next.
